With the new slogan in the campaign against SGBV; “NOT IN MY LAGOS!!!”, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has continued it’s Community engagement advocacy as it engaged the Ojo Local Government on the 30th October, 2023.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour Adeniyi averred that the State government remains unrelenting in the zero- tolerance stance against the SGBV and ensuring Justice take it’s course.
The Executive Secretary who was represented by the Head, Community Engagement Department, Mr. Damilare Adewusi informed the gathering that the Agency is working under mandate and in line with the themes plus agenda of the State government and also assured that reporting cases was mandatory to all under strict confidentiality.
He further explained that the various forms of abuse which include: physical, emotional and Sexual are not to be taken with levity as perpetrators would be made to face the full wrath of the Law.
He differentiated between rape/defilement and the grave consequences of both, which is life imprisonment. According to him, sexual violence has gone beyond sex without consent, it also include inserting any object in any part of the private parts. He encouraged participants to report any form of abuse through the toll-free number – 08000333333 of the Agency.
Adetoun Odumbo, a representative of the Agency, sensitized the people on the support services available which include: empowerment, rescue operation, medical assistance, counseling, rescue and Shelter.
The chairman, Hon. Rasulu Olusola Idowu, represented by his wife, Mrs. Abimbola Akinola Idowu appreciated the Lagos State Government for the initiative. According to her, SBGV is a collective responsibility and the essence of the initiative is to create a safe environment for everyone.
